Dadat Studio : Simplicity in Design
One of the new kids in town is Parisian designer Marilou Dadat. Trained in couture and leather-goods ateliers in Paris, Marilou perfectly blends the craft of construction with quality materials.
Bringing her minimalist design aesthetic to the village of Devonport, she founded Dadat Studio and recently launched her first stunning piece, the Oui-Bag. Dadat celebrates reduction over excess and this is evident in the bag design. The Oui-Bag features no stitching or lining and steers away from ornamental design. The result is a bag that holds shape due to clever construction and quality materials; a marriage of beauty and function with simplicity at its heart.
Dadat started her journey of Design at the ENSAD Art School in Paris. She went on to work for Paris Vogue and couture house Dice Kayek, where she chose to work directly alongside the pattern makers and machinists. “It makes sense that I design AND make now” Dadat says. “My process is what you can call slow fashion too. It suits me because I have always been very hands-on. Every designer is different and each job allows different processes but naturally I think a lot in three dimension and I think Dadat reflects that".
