New in Town: Vic Road Kitchen

Many locals will have seen the owners of new restaurant Vic Road Kitchen slaving inside during the hottest months of the year, fitting out their chic dining and bar space. Whilst the team have probably spent the summer months sweating and stressing, they’ve unwittingly done a great job building up huge anticipation amongst those who live in the area.

Local sister duo Harriet and Lucy Byrnes, having paired up with British imports Ian Shields (Head Chef) and Craig Wright (Bar Manager), will be opening the doors on March 1st. The Vic Road Kitchen will be Mediterranean in style (both in flavours and way of eating) and their intention is to change their menu daily to reflect a commitment to showcasing produce at its prime. Mirroring this concept with a frequently changing and boutique wine list, we suspect they’ve found the recipe for success.

The interior of the restaurant is something quite special too. Situated in a heritage property at 57 Victoria Road, the team were drawn to the exposed brick work and the heritage details. This, however also meant a longer than expected time getting the space ready with two months of earthquake proofing and ticking additional boxes, something a more modern space would not have required. However, when you walk through their front door, you'll see the effort was well worth it.

The foursome are excited to share their labour-of-love with locals and visitors alike, and Ian, in particular, is chomping at the bit to get into the kitchen to start doing what he really does best, create fresh, flavoursome dishes.
