Listen In, It's FLEA

One of the markers of a great little community is a great local radio station. We all know that Devonport is exactly that, and if you tune into 88.2FM, you’ll be listening to The Flea, our great local station. John Grant is the Station Manager, and Program Director Muzza is a veritable radio legend. And guess what, there’s plenty of opportunity for you to get involved, so tune in people…

How long has The Flea been operating and from where does it operate? The Flea started broadcast in Devonport in May 1999 and was the idea and inspiration of the late Mike Baker.

When we tune in, what can we expect to hear? You will hear a mixture of local community news and promotion of events, local personalities and plenty of easy listening and entertaining music 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The station is run entirely by volunteers (20 in total) from the studio in the old Post Office and broadcasts from the top of Mt Victoria on 88.2FM and Takapuna on 107.1FM

Tell us about your radio hosts. Who’s involved? Muzza is undoubtedly the best-known radio voice on The Flea and possibly in NZ. He is a legend of the industry and can be heard on the station from 12 till 6pm each day. In addition to Muzza, Ray Mankelow does breakfast, Dave White 9 till 12 and on Wednesday and Saturday 9 till 10 you can hear Willie the Devonport Tag buster. Also on air Kevin James on Saturday 12 to 2, Torey Slater Sunday 2 till 4, Chris Duggan Saturday 3 till 5 and the Café UK show and Diamonds in the Dust with Colin MacDonald. Who have I missed? We also have news from 6 till 1pm and 5pm till 7pm from Newshub and Feature Story News.
